Ninilchik, CIA split 2 games

Ninilchik's girls edged out visiting Cook Inlet Academy 40-39 in overtime on Thursday.

The Wolverines overcame a seven-point deficit in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 32 at the end of regulation. Lindsey Rohr scored six of Ninilchik's eight points in the extra period. Rohr led Ninilchik with 16 points. Brittani Motoyama followed with 15 points.

Amie Smithwick and Tiana McGahan led CIA with 10 points each. Kelsie Leaf scored five of the Eagles' seven overtime points.

Eagles 57, Wolverines 49

CIA earned a split with Ninilchik with a win in the boys game.

After trailing by five points at halftime, CIA scored 34 second-half points to Ninilchik's 21. Matthew Moffis scored a team-high 16 points for the Eagles. David Reischach followed with 12.

Jeff Klapak pumped in 26 points for the Wolverines, including going 10-of-10 from the line.

Lumen Tourney

Lumen Christi's boys opened its own tournament with a 46-43 win over Nikolaevsk on Thursday. The Archangels held a 10-point lead going into the fourth quarter. The Warriors outscored Lumen 13-6 but the Archangels held on for the win.

Ted Sturgulewski paced Lumen with 13 points. Seth Bakic followed with 12.

Christopher Kalguin led the Warriors with 14 points. David Ivanov and Mark Fefelov had 13 apiece.

Half of Nikolaevsk's boys along with five other tournament teams could not make it to Lumen Thursday due to an avalanche that blocked the Seward Highway.

In other Thursday action, Lumen Christi topped Nanwalek 59-25. Nanwalek waited for seven hours for an avalanche to clear the Seward Highway before finishing the trip to Anchorage. The Archangels took over the game in the second quarter with Bakic scoring 10 of his 19 points. In the third quarter, Ted Sturgulewski scored 10 of his 17 points.

Vladimir Moonin led Nanwalek with 14 points.
