ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Police were investigating the fatal shooting of a man in what appeared to be a home invasion and robbery.

The shooting occurred at about 6 a.m. Tuesday in the city's Fairview neighborhood, said officer John Daley.

Police have not released the name of the man who was killed.

Investigators are releasing few details, but say a man entered the home and took the four people inside hostage. The suspect escaped before police arrived and no arrests have been made. Police would not disclose what was stolen or if any of those held hostage were injured.

Neighbors say the house where the shooting occurred has seen trouble before.

Rodney Scott, then 25, was shot in the buttocks outside the house last July. Scott lives there, according to state records. Police tied his shooting to the homicide that night of Joshua Fitts, 20, who was found shot to death in a car seven blocks away.

Police said the two shootings were linked to a drug deal gone bad, and Scott admitted shooting Fitts. Scott claimed self-defense and has not been charged in connection with Fitts' death.

Police wouldn't say whether drugs were involved in Tuesday's killing. They also declined to say whether Scott was a party to the crime.
