Writers' Night deadline nears

Submissions are being accepted for the sixth annual Central Peninsula Writers' Night event, a showcase of creative writing on the central Kenai Peninsula from Cooper Landing to Ninilchik and all points in between.

Submission forms and guidelines are available at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center and online at There are separate categories for adults and high school students. The entry deadline is 4 p.m. Saturday. Entries can be brought to the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center, mailed to the center at 11471 Kenai Spur Highway, Kenai, AK 99611 or e-mailed to Writers' Night will be the First Thursday Art After Hours event March 6 at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Boys and Girls Club holds show

The Boys and Girls Club in Kenai will host a talent show at the Kenai clubhouse on Saturday. The show is open to all 2003 club members ages 6 to 18. The registration deadline is Feb. 13. All types of entertainers are encouraged to enter their talent in the show.

The top performances will be video taped and the tape will be submitted to the Boys and Girls Clubs of America's national Conference Talent Search. National winners will be invited to perform in Orlando, Fla. For more information, call Kimberli Dent at 283-2682.

Arts entries accepted

The Kenai Fine Arts Center will accept entries for its juried exhibit Tuesday and Wednesday. The juror is abstract artist Graham Dane from Anchorage. The exhibit opens with a reception Mach 1. For more information, call 262-1777.

Poetry contest announced

Hollywood's Famous Poets Society is sponsoring a new poetry contest with a grand prize of $1,000. The entry deadline is Feb. 27. A winner's list will be sent to all entrants. Editors reserve the right to publish winning poems online or in a pamphlet.

Part of visitors center closed

The cultural history museum section of the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center will be closed for much of the month of February for renovation. The natural history museum and gallery space will remain open, as will the visitors center and conference room gallery.
