The Colony Knights swept the Skyview Panthers in Northern Lights Conference basketball action Saturday at Skyview.

Colony was coming off wins in Homer Friday, while Skyview just finished sweeping the Palmer boys and girls teams Friday.

The Skyview girls had to play against several tall post players from Colony, but kept the game close by playing tough defense.

The Knights took an early lead, but after Christina Shadura hit two foul shots with just under three minutes left in the first quarter, it tied the game at 8. Colony closed the first quarter with a 12-9 lead though.

The second quarter opened rather sloppy as both teams turned the ball over and the first basket wasn't scored until Skyview's Anna Blake hit a 3-pointer with just under six minutes to go. A small run from Colony put the Knights ahead 22-17 at the half.

Down 39-27 late in the fourth quarter, Skyview used several missed free-throw attempts from Colony to pull within 39-33, but that would be as close as the Panthers could get as they dropped the game 43-35.

"I'm real proud of our defense," Skyview girl's coach Wade Marcuson said, "It was good enough to win (the game), but we just fell short in the end."

Allison Fay led the Panthers in scoring with eight points as none of the Skyview players reached double figures for the game.

On the boys side, Skyview used a 2-3 zone defense to try to contain a slashing Colony team whose most common play was a backdoor cut to the basket. The defense worked for a while, but Skyview ran out of steam in the end offensively and dropped the game 70-49.

The zone defense hinted that it had some holes early on as Colony opened up with a 22-13 lead by the end of the first quarter. Skyview's Brian Blossom hit a 3-pointer as the buzzer sounded to end the first half, though, cutting the Knights' lead to 32-26.

Most of Skyview's offense was run through only three players — Jeff Dolifka, Brian Blossom, and Greg Bosick — who combined to score 43 of Skyview's 49 total points.

Late in the first half and throughout the second half, the trio created an offensive strategy that was either Dolifka penetrating through the lane to find Bosick for a uncontested layup or a drive by Blossom.

It worked until Skyview lost its shooting touch down the stretch. Skyview couldn't hit a shot in the final minutes and finished with nearly ten misses in the paint for the fourth quarter, while being outscored 20-6 in the final period as well.

"Colony simply hit their shots in the end," Skyview boys coach Dave Blossom said. "It was almost like there was a lid over our basket in the end, though."

Blossom also mentioned he was proud of how his team held it together most of the game and kept in it.

Brian Blossom finished with 17 points, while Bosick added 16, and Dolifka pitched in 10 to lead the Panthers.

The Panthers trailed 36-30 at the half, but outscored the visiting Moose 17-6 in the third quarter to pick up a Northern Lights Conference victory Friday.

Allison Fay poured in a game-high 20 points for the Panthers, while Shelley Heffner added 15 and Christina Shadura pitched in 10. Brittany Heck paced Palmer with 10 points.
