Henry Thomas Franklin

Franklins welcome son

Chaz and Jessica Franklin, of Kasilof, announce the birth of their son, Henry Thomas Franklin, on Monday, Feb. 7, 2011, at 12:45 a.m. He weighed 10 pounds, 4 ounces, and measured 22 3/4 inches.

Henry joins sister Ivy Marie.

Henry's grandparents are Randy and Heidi Cooper, of Anchorage; Chuck and Cori Franklin, of Kenai; Joe and Brenda Trefren, of Soldotna; and Rose Trefren, of Santa Ana, Calif.

His great grandparents are Bill and Lois Cooper, of Fair Oaks, Calif,; Refugio and Carmen Quintana, of Santa Ana, Calif,; and Mark and Marilyn Spangenberg, of McPherson, Kan.

Womans Way Midwifery attended the birth.

Hostetters welcome new daughter

Lynsey and Justin Hostetter, of Soldotna, announce the birth of their daughter, Norah Aubrey Hostetter, on Sunday, Jan. 30, 2011, at 7:40 a.m., at Woman's Way Midwifery. She weighed 7 pounds, 10 ounces. Norah joins older sister Evangeline, age 2. Norah's grandparents are Steven and Brenda Hostetter, of Bemidji, Minn.; and Sonny and Laura Mese, of Kenai.

Women's Heart Health Program starting

The Cooperative Extension Service will be offering the Strong Women -- Healthy Hearts Program, a 12-week nutrition and exercise program for women age 40 and over on Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at the Nikiski Community Recreation Center beginning February 28. Pre-registration is required by February 20.

The series will be led by Linda Tannehill, Kenai Peninsula District Extension Agent with the University of Alaska Cooperative Extension Service. Contact the Cooperative Extension Service if interested in this free program by calling 262-5824.

Fundraiser to help local fight breast cancer

Supporters of breast cancer patient Anna Grant of Ninilchik, daughter of Alvin Steik host a spaghetti dinner, silent auction and dessert auction to raise money for her on March 5 at 5 p.m., at the Ninilchik Fair Grounds in the community room. Kasilof special use area discussion coming

State Sen. Tom Wagoner hosts a meeting for the public to discuss the proposed Kasilof River Special Use Area with Rick Thompson, a Regional Land Manager from the state's Division of Mining, Land and Water on Feb. 26 at Tustumena Elementary School from 1 to 3 p.m. For more information, call the senator's Kenai office at 283-7996.
