CIA girls, boys take Seldovia Tourney

The Cook Inlet Academy basketball teams finished 3-0 at the Seldovia Tournament as each took home titles.

In Friday girls action, CIA defeated Nikolaevsk 51-20 and the Bristol Bay defeated Seldovia 34-30. In Friday boys action, CIA topped Nikolaevsk 68-47 and Bristol Bay topped Nanwalek 63-33.

The CIA girls defeated Seldovia 67-48 on Saturday. The Eagles jumped to a 19-11 lead after one quarter in the high-scoring affair, but Seldovia came back to grab a 32-31 lead at the half. The Eagles then led 49-37 after three quarters.

Kelsie Leaf had 18 points for the Eagles, while Keely Powers added 10. For the Sea Otters, Sarah Geagel had 26 points before fouling out, while Sarah O'Leary had 17.

Also on Saturday, the Nikolaevsk girls notched a 35-32 victory over Bristol Bay. Sarah Holub had 12 points for the Warriors, while Kilina Klaich had 11 points and Sophia Kalugin added 10. For Bristol Bay, Brianna Cook had 10 points.

On Saturday, Cook Inlet notched a comeback victory over Nanwalek. The Eagles trailed 47-44 heading into the final period, but won 58-53. Matthew Moffis had 23 points for CIA, while Tyler Solie had 13 and Cody Munn added 12. For Nanwalek, Vladimir Moonin had 18 points, while Antone Ukatish had 12 and Chris Kvasnikoff added 11.

Also on Saturday, the Bristol Bay boys defeated Nikolaevsk 51-34. Jaxon Wassillie had 19 points for the Angels, while Luke Wilson added 16 points. For Nikolaevsk, Mark Fefelov had 14 points, while Eric Mametieff added 11.

ACS girls 43, Nikiski 30

The host Lions pulled away in the fourth quarter for a Southcentral Conference victory.

Sarah Taylor of ACS led all scorers with 12 points, while Britany Tuttle had 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Nikiski girls 38, Grace Christian 35

The Bulldogs used a 19-7 run to come back for a three-point win at Grace Christian on Saturday. Nikiski's Savannah Griffel was 10-of-10 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter, finishing with 14 points.

ACS boys 81, Nikiski 44

The host Lions picked up a Southcentral Conference victory on Friday over the Bulldogs.

Chris Voss led the Lions with 30 points, while Gus Simmers had 16, Calvin Hoffman had 11 and Wes Arnes chipped in 10. Colton Anderson and Sam Taylor teamed up to score 35 of Nikiski's 44 points.

Grace Christian boys 60, Nikiski 30

Jordan Edwards scored 15 points and Zach Vandervalk added 14 as the Grizzlies earned a 60-30 win on Saturday.

Sam Taylor had a team-high 13 for the Bulldogs.

Seward girls 55, Grace 44

The visiting Seahawks got off to a quick start and used that to register a Southcentral Conference victory.

Seward, which led by 13 points after the first quarter, was led by Chelsey Clarke with 19 points. Heidi Eckmann had 11 for Grace Christian.

Seward girls 60, ACS 36

Chelsea Clark scored 20 points to lead Seward past Anchorage Christian Schools 60-36 Saturday. The Seahawks limited the Lions to eight points in the first half.

Seward boys 50, Grace 45

The Seahawks were down seven after three quarters, but Andrew Buchanan scored 11 in the final eight minutes to get the Southcentral Conference victory over the host Grizzlies.

Buchanan pumped in 20 points for Seward, while Jordan Edwards paced Grace with 16 points.

ACS boys 53, Seward 47

The Lions went on a 19-10 run in the second quarter to build a nine-point lead Saturday, earning a 53-47 win over the Seahawks.

Andrew Buchanan had 17 points for the Seahawks, while Chris Voss had 16 for the Lions.

Kenai Central girls 44, Kodiak 42

The Kardinals picked up an important Northern Lights Conference win behind 15 points from both Raquel Young and Morgan Wensley, defeating Kodiak 44-42 at home Saturday.

Kenai Central improved to 5-3 in conference play with the win. It was the second narrow loss in as many nights for the Bears, who fell 43-32 against Soldotna on Friday.

Kenai Central boys 73, Kodiak 54

A 28-point first quarter sparked the Kardinals in a 73-54 win over Kodiak at Kenai Central on Saturday. Four players scored in double figures for Kenai Central, led by Kai Risung's 23.

Colony boys 64, Homer 55

The Knights got past the Mariners 64-55 in Homer on Saturday thanks to Hunter Eisenhower's 17 points. For the Mariners, Devon Kennelty scored a game-high 18. On Friday, Palmer defeated Homer 58-38. That game also was played in Homer.

Colony girls 69, Homer 18

The Knights buried the Mariners with a 21-point quarter at Homer on Saturday. The Mariners didn't score more than six points any quarter.
