CARTS tops agenda at chamber lunch

The Kenai Chamber of Commerce will meet at noon today at the Old Town Village Restaurant in Kenai. Guest speaker will be Jennifer Beckmann with the Central Area Rural Transit System. For more information, call 283-7989.

Meeting planned to voice ideas, concerns

The Kachemak Bay State Parks Citizen's Advisory Board and the Alaska Division of Parks and Outdoor Recreation will host a public workshop at 7 p.m. today at the Homer High School Commons.

The workshop is intended to bring interested neighbors, user groups and individuals together to express ideas and concerns and to make recommendations for the management and development of the new state park area. The area contains approximately 225 acres located between the Sterling Highway at Diamond Ridge Road and Cook Inlet.

Quick Books seminar to be held

A seminar entitled "Introduction to Quick Books" is being sponsored by the Small Business Development Center Friday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Saturday 1 to 4 p.m. at the New Frontier Vocational Technical Center on Kalifornsky Beach. The fee for the seminar is $100.

The workshop is designed to help small business owners learn more about this basic computerized accounting software. This is a hands-on workshop.

Kenai Lions to celebrate anniversary

The Kenai Lions will meet Friday at Kenai Elks Lodge at 6:30 p.m. to celebrate the Lions' 35th anniversary. Dinner may be ordered at 6 p.m. and desert will be served at the end of the meeting.

District 49A dignitaries and guests are invited to attend. The meeting is open to the public, but they must notify the Kenai Elks Club by calling Barbara Waters at 283-3216 or 283-3803.

First sphere weekend planned

The Ishayas' Ascension First Sphere weekend will be held Friday through Sunday in Soldotna. The cost of the weekend is $200.

A free introduction lecture about the event will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday at Bridges Community Resource Network in Soldotna.

The Ishayas' Ascension is a series of mechanical techniques that allow a person to rise beyond, or ascend, stress and self-defeating beliefs. The Ishayas' Ascension uses techniques that are based in praise, gratitude and love.

Doggie open house planned Saturday

The Peninsula Dog Obedience Group will hold an open house Saturday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at its facility at Mile 1 of the Kenai Spur Highway, in the Richards Veterinary Clinic building. The event is in conjunction with Responsible Pet Owners Month.

Scheduled demonstrations are conformation at 11:30 a.m., clicker training at noon, bird work at 12:30 p.m., obedience at 1, agility at 2, retrieving at 3 and skijoring at 3:30. Plus there will be videos and printed literature, all promoting fun and positive activities to do with dogs, dog health and safety.

Groups represented at the open house will include the Kenai Kennel Club, Kenai and Soldotna animal shelters, Peninsula Retrievers Association, 4-H Guide Dog Program and Kenai Peninsula Borough Office of Emergency Management.

Red Cross to offer safety course

The American Red Cross will offer a Community First Aid and Safety class Saturday. The cost is $58. Training will include first aid, adult, child and infant CPR. The course meets all OSHA and workplace requirements. Registration is required. To preregister or for more information, call 262-4541.

Sterling community to hold Fun Day

Sterling community is putting on a Fun Day Saturday starting at 4 p.m. It will be a potluck with free hot dogs. There also will be games, a pie auction, regular auction and fireworks. The Fun Day is a fund-raiser for the hockey rink and improvements to the Sterling Community Park.

Home choice seminar to be presented

An eight-hour Home Choice seminar will be held March 5 and 6 from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Borough Building in Soldotna. Experts will touch on several topics about home inspection and shopping for a home. Preregistration is required. For more information and to register, call (800) 459-2921.

KBEA scholarship applications available

The Kenai Borough Employees Association scholarship committee is accepting applications for four scholarships of $500 each. The scholarships are available to all 2001 graduates of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, including public, private and home-schooled individuals.
