ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A 44-year-old man apparently shot himself to death accidentally while cleaning a gun in his home early Wednesday, police said.

Police spokesman Ron McGee said officers were called to an address on Wesleyan Drive shortly after midnight, when the man's body was discovered.

The victim's name has not been released pending notification of family members.

A Ruger M77 rifle was found near the man's body. McGee said police think he was cleaning the gun when it accidentally discharged.
