ANCHORAGE (AP) -- A man involved in a fatal head-on collision last year on the Parks Highway near Wasilla has been indicted on murder, assault and drunken driving charges.

John M. Knauss, 42, was indicted Wednesday in Palmer on charges of second-degree murder, driving while intoxicated and two counts of first-degree assault for the Nov. 27 crash that killed five-year-old Floyd Mack Jr.

Mack's mother, Linda, 35, and her daughter, Jeanette, 15, were badly burned in the accident.

According to Alaska State Troopers, Knauss was driving drunk when he crossed the center line near Mile 46 of the highway and slammed into a truck driven by Linda Mack.

Knauss also faces charges of unlawful evasion for walking away from a halfway house about four months before the accident while serving time for a drunken driving conviction.
