FAIRBANKS (AP) -- A 19-year-old man was arrested Tuesday in Arizona and charged with shooting a man twice in a Fairbanks apartment last September.
Takory L. Stern of Fairbanks has been charged with attempted murder and assault in the shooting of Lee Meckel, 19. He will be extradited to Fairbanks to face the charges, said Fairbanks Police detective Randy Coffey.
Stern's arrest came five months after Meckel was shot at his apartment during a gathering of six or seven people on Sept. 21. One bullet struck Meckel's leg. Another went through his chest and lodged in his lung, requiring him to be transported to Fairbanks Memorial Hospital.
Prosecutors said Stern surfaced in the Phoenix area after he was contacted by an Arizona Department of Public Safety inspector in connection with a stolen property sting operation.
