Soldotna area resident Darrel B. Papczak died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, at his home from cancer. He was 57.
A memorial mass will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Soldotna. Father Frank Reitter will officiate. A celebration of life with a potluck and barbecue will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 25, at his home on Leisure Lake Road.
Mr. Papczak was born Feb. 25, 1946, in Highland Park, Mich. He moved to Alaska in 1983, residing in Girdwood. He lived in Girdwood until leaving the state in 1986. He returned to Alaska in 1992, living the Soldotna area. He was a mechanic and snow plower.
Mr. Papczak was Catholic. He enjoyed snowmachining and playing the card game Texas Hold 'Em.
Mr. Papczak was preceded in death by his daughter, Teresa; son, Richard "Dickie;" brothers, Jerry and Bob; nephew, Paul Jr.; niece, Pricilla; and his companion, Taya.
He is survived by his sisters, Sylvia, Jackie and Carol; brother, Tom; nieces, Robin and Chantilly; nephew, Duke and his wife, Mary; sons, Darrel and Tommy; daughter, Heather; son, Michael and his wife, Angel; grandson, K.C.; and special friend and caregiver, Karen.
Memorial donations may be sent to the family at 49755 Leisure Lake Drive, Soldotna, AK 99669.
