Seward girls continue rolling in District 3/3A

The Seward High School girls basketball team continued to dominate District 3/3A opponents, downing Grace 40-29 Saturday in Seward.

Lara Loomis led the Seahawks with 10 points, and Seward held the Grizzlies to 16 points in the first half and just four in the third quarter.

Lisa Steinbrecher had nine for the Seahawks and Breanna Bardarson and Krista Boulden both chipped in with seven.

Grace Christian boys 60, Seward 55

The Grizzlies defeated the Seahawks in a District 3/3A game Saturday in Seward.

Ryan Dieckgraeff led Seward with nine points while Scott Hubbard and Sam Banse each scored eight for the Seahawks.

Tim Ingalls had 16 for the Grizzlies, who took a 17-11 lead after the first quarter.

Homer girls 54, Soldotna 28

The Mariners defeated the Stars in a Region III/4A game in Homer Saturday.

Bailey Lowney and Channing Setterquist each scored 11 points to lead the Mariners while Skya McKinstry netted 10 points.

Christa Kennedy paced the Stars with nine points.

Soldotna stayed close through the first quarter, but the Mariners began to pull away in the second with a 12-6 run for a 23-14 halftime lead.

The Stars came back from a six-point third-quarter deficit to beat the Mariners in a Region III/4A game in Homer.

Soldotna trailed 30-24 entering the fourth quarter, but the Stars held the Mariners to two points in the final frame and rallied to score nine for the win.

Ryan Hall scored 15 points for the Stars. Luke Gilbert paced the Mariners with 10 points.

The Kenai girls used a balanced scoring attack to pull a Region III/4A sweep of Kodiak Saturday in Kodiak.

Breezy Saltzgiver, Kassi Kiel, Amber McGlasson and Samantha Calderwood each scored eight points to lead Kenai to a 40-36 win, its second in two days over the Bears.

The Kenai boys split with Kodiak over the weekend after the Kardinals were unable to hang on to a 18-17 halftime lead Saturday, falling 50-36 to the Bears in Kodiak.

Kenai was led by Geoffery Gemmell and Nick Barnes, who each had a game-high 12 points.
