Greetings from Kasilof.

Hopefully your week is off to a good start. The earlier sunrise is a welcome addition to my day, as well as the extra minutes added to the hour commonly referred to as dusk.

For those who are counting, only 26 days until spring officially arrives. Sigh. Winter is on its way out.

Congratulations to Kasilof newlyweds Caron and Scott Sarchet and Jamie and Dino Leite. The two couples wed in Homer over the weekend.

Lifelong Kasilof resident Bobby Bush is a single dad and Gulf War veteran currently awaiting pancreas and kidney transplantation. Join the community effort to support Bush at 5 p.m. Saturday at the Decanter Inn.

The event will feature a spaghetti dinner, Chinese and outcry auctions and split the pot.

Donations of items for the auctions will be accepted up to event time at the Decanter.

For more information, call Karen Burger at 262-6475, Bev Toland at 262-5917 or Pete Baerresen at 262-7203.

Easter comes early this year — March 27 — and so does the seventh annual Wolk family Easter egg hunt. Join us at 1 p.m. March 26 at the Tustumena Elementary School playground for an egg hunt for children ages 2 to 12 years. Any folks out there who would like to help stuff eggs (put candy and prizes in them) and hide more than 1,000 plastic eggs are encouraged to take part, and their help would be appreciated.

If you are able to help in any capacity or would like more information, call 252-1120.

Many thanks to longtime south Cohoe resident Louise Hann for her invaluable help during the Kasilof Public Library's scholastic book fair earlier this month.

Kasilof is fortunate. Louise has been a dedicated part of the library for many years. My thanks, as well, to Tustumena librarian Darla Wales for coordinating class visit times and to her students for their flier dressing help.

Volunteers always are needed and in short supply.

If you would like to be a friend of the library, there are a million ways to contribute.

The Kasilof library is inside Tustumena Elementary. The hours of operation are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday from 2:30 to 6 p.m. For further library information, call 252-1120.

Belated birthday greetings to Blake Escritt of south Cohoe. Kasilof folks celebrating their birthdays this week are Jerry Hatten, Evy Gebhardt, Jim Hawkins, Frank Kitchen, Sara Warner, Lance Kitchen and John Fisler.

Thanks to those folks who send in their news and information. Until next time, watch for cranky moose and think spring.
