It never fails to astound me how many naysayers come out of the woodwork when a resource-related incident occurs.
In this latest incident, Tesoro not only kept the media updated regularly on the stranded tanker, but the systems that are already in place for such occurrences proved to be very responsive and effective on a timely basis.
I think it is time we recognized not only that resources-based industries are responsible not only in Cook Inlet, but in the entire state of Alaska, as well.
Resource based industries are what made the Kenai Peninsula what it is today. They are and will continue to be huge contributors in both cash and in-kind contributions to many organizations and nonprofits throughout our communities.
The folks that work in these industries are our neighbors, friends and relatives. Let’s treat them with the respect they deserve.
