Live music and other entertainment will be featured at a fundraiser for Jenny Barrett this weekend at the Triumvirate Theatre in the Peninsula Center Mall. Barrett, a long-time peninsula resident, was recently diagnosed with breast cancer. The event starts at 6 p.m. on Saturday. The Kenai masters swim team swims from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday through Thursday at the Kenai Central High School pool. The group is open to swimmers over the age of 18. The Peninsula Job Center hosts a One-Stop Training Academy on March 9 and 10, at the Challenger Learning Center. The focus of the Academy is to educate social service organizations, schools and government, and private businesses about the services and programs available in the Kenai Peninsula area. Key speakers will include: Alaska Department of Labor Deputy Commissioner, Tom Nelson; Alaska Department of Labor Wage and Hour Investigator, Joe Dunham; Kenai Peninsula Borough Mayor, Dave Carey; and Central Peninsula Hospital Marketing Manager, Bonnie Nichols. The Kenai Basketball Booster Club sponsors a silent dessert auction Saturday at Kenai Central High School to raise funds for the program. Bidding begins during the JV girls game at noon, and continues through the afternoon games. Winning bidders can pick up their desserts after half-time of the boys' varsity game.
