Ninilchik splits with Bristol Bay

The Ninilchik high school basketball teams split a pair of games with Peninsula Conference rival Bristol Bay Wednesday in Ninilchik.

In the boys game, Ninilchik’s Jesse Leman hit a jumper from the corner at the buzzer to give the Wolverines a 68-66 win.

Leman finished with 21 points to lead the Wolverines and Deonte Powe chipped in with 19 points.

Dustin Wilson paced the Angels with 23 points and Brycin Pacheco netted 20.

Ninilchik led by eight, 30-22, at the half before Bristol Bay was able to tie the game at 43 at the end of the third quarter. Leman’s jumper for two capped a 25-point fourth quarter for the Wolverines.

In the girls game, Ninilchik had four players score in double-figures, but the Wolverines lost by a point, 48-47, to the Angels.

The Wolverines led 44-29 entering the final quarter, but the Angels outscored Ninilchik 19-3 over the final eight minutes to steal the win.

Jackie West scored 16 points to lead Bristol Bay.

Kjersten Skjold scored 12 and Heidi Skjold, Krista Leman and Kendra Moerlein each netted 10 for the Wolverines.
