Car seat check slated

A car seat check will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Monday at the Kenai Fire Department and from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at Central Emergency Services Station No. 1, across from McDonald's in Soldotna.

Swim lessons offered in Kenai

The Kenai Central High School pool will hold swim lessons Monday through March 7 (10 days of lessons). Times available are 6:30 to 7:10 p.m. and 7:10 to 7:50 p.m. Preschool and levels one through three will be offered.

Steak dinner fundraiser in Sterling

The Sterling Senior Center will hold at steak dinner with all the trimmings fundraiser from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the center. The cost is $12.50 per person. For more information, call 262-6808.

Child identification project slated

A child identification kit project will be held from 2 to 5 p.m. March 2 at the Nikiski Fire Department No. 1. The purpose of the project is to make identification packets that contain information about a child and be utilized for identification in case of separation from family during a natural disaster. Packets will include fingerprints, height, weight, eye color, and any other identifying information guardians might include. It also will also include a hair sample for DNA purposes. Prints will be taken with the assistance of the Kenai Police Department. The information will be kept by the guardians. For more information, call Maggie Braun at 776-5398.

Rotary raffle offers hope

The Rotary Club of Soldotna will hold a raffle fundraiser to benefit Project HOPE and home construction for 10 families in Nicaragua. Two hundred tickets will be sold for a chance to win a 50 inch big screen plasma TV. The drawing will be held March 6.

Excellent teachers sought

The BP Teachers of Excellence Program deadline for nominations is March 7. The program recognizes exceptional teachers throughout Alaska. Anyone may submit a nomination for the outstanding educators in their school by filling out a form at The outstanding teachers are eligible for a $500 gift card for classroom resources and each area's local Teacher of the Year receives a $1,500 scholarship for continuing education.
