Knights take showdown

Colony boys assume early control vs. Kards

Posted: Sunday, February 24, 2008

The Colony boys basketball team ran away from host Kenai Central on Saturday in a matchup of division leaders in the Northern Lights Conference.

Colony, the leader of the Northern Division with an 8-0 record in the league, notched a 57-31 victory over Kenai Central, which is now 6-2 in the NLC and in first place in the Southern Division. Colony is currently the top team in the WPI, the formula the Alaska School Activities Association uses to determine seeding at the state tournament. The Kardinals are ninth.

After festivities to honor the seniors in Kenai's basketball program, the Knights jumped on the Kardinals, taking a 20-6 lead after the first quarter. Jaron Murphy was the quickest out of the gate, scoring all 10 of his points in the first quarter.

Colony's defense then kept the Kardinals from getting on track. Kenai scored over 10 points in just one quarter and none of the Kardinals finished in double figures. Kenai Central got to the foul line just two times in the game.
