KCHS-SoHi hoops set to meet on Saturday

The Kenai Central and Soldotna boys and girls basketball teams will square off Saturday beginning with the girls contest at 3 p.m. at Kenai Central.

The Kardinals will celebrate senior night between games, and the boys game is expected to start around 5 p.m.

It's the regular-season finale for both schools. The Northern Lights Conference tournament, determing which teams advance to state, begins Thursday in Homer.

Iron Dog racers rest in Nome, facing snow

The team of Dusty Van Meter of Kasilof and Marc McKenna of Anchorage had the lead in the Iron Dog as 15 of the remaining 18 teams rested in Nome on Wednesday.

Van Meter, a three-time champion, and McKenna, the 2008 winner, got into Nome at 7:41 p.m. Tuesday.

At 7:44 p.m. Tuesday, four-time champion Todd Palin and 2008 champion Eric Quam reached Nome in second.

Teams will leave Nome at 8 a.m. today. The three squads who were still on the trail had until 11:59 p.m. Wednesday to reach Nome.
