Cruise companies announce Ketchikan donations

KETCHIKAN (AP) -- Royal Caribbean International and Celebrity Cruises are donating $102,000 to local organizations, including $50,000 to the Ketchikan Centennial Committee for a major community event during the community's 100th anniversary celebration in late August.

Ketchikan Area Arts and Humanities Council will receive $15,000 for its annual Blueberry Arts Festival. The arts council also will receive $12,000 to provide arts education to grade school children.

Southeast Senior Services will receive $12,000 to keep the center operational after June 31.

Women In Safe Homes will receive $10,000 and KRBD-FM radio will receive $3,000. The cruise ship company also is donating cruises for the station's spring raffle.

City Mayor Bob Weinstein said this is the second year the cruise ship company has made major donations to Ketchikan groups.
