HEAD:Tax aid available to seniors, others
The American Association of Retired Persons and the Internal Revenue Service are offering tax preparation assistance to senior citizens and people of low and middle income. Assistance is available at the Soldotna Senior Center on Friday mornings; Soldotna Public Library on Tuesday evenings; Sterling Senior Center on Tuesday mornings; Homer Senior Center on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays; the Kenai Senior Center on Thursday mornings; the Kenai Public Library on Sunday afternoons; and the Nikiski Senior Center on Wednesdays.

'Fiddler on the Roof' closes Sunday
This is the last weekend of "Fiddler on the Roof" at Kenai Central High School Auditorium. Show times are 8 tonight and Saturday, and 3 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets are $12 for general admission and $10 for seniors and students. Tickets are available at the door, or at Halcyon Spalon, Charlotte's, River City Books, the Music Box, Northcountry Fair and at the door.
Planned Parenthood's Choice Evening scheduled
The Planned Parenthood of Alaska Soldotna Advisory Council will hold its 13th annual "A Choice Evening" fund-raiser at the Soldotna Senior Center on Saturday from 6 to 10 p.m. The evening includes adventure auctions, hors d'oeuvres, music and door prizes.
Tickets are $30 each or two for $55. Raffle tickets also are available. Tickets are on sale at Kaladi Brothers, Northcountry Fair, River City Books and the senior center in Soldotna and at Charlotte's, Halcyon Spalon and Veronica's Coffeehouse in Kenai. For more information, call 262-2622.
Ninilchik seniors host prime rib fund-raiser
The Ninilchik Senior Center will host a prime rib dinner to benefit the center's endowment fund on Saturday at 6 p.m. in the senior center. Tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for children 15 and younger. There will be door prizes. For more information, call 567-3988.
Brown bear group slates Monday meeting
The Kenai Brown Bear Stakeholders Group will meet at 9 a.m. Monday at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. On the agenda will be further discussion of the group's recommendations regarding the future of brown bears on the peninsula. The public is invited to attend. Public comment will be taken at 11:45 a.m. and 4:45 p.m.
Council, transportation panel to meet Monday
The Kenai City Council and the Central Kenai Peninsula Public Transportation Task Force will meet in the Kenai council chambers at 2 p.m. on Monday, to discuss the Central Area Rural Transit System (CARTS). The public is invited to attend.
Book club to discuss 'The Sunflower'
The Kenai Community Library Book Club will discuss "The Sunflower" by Simon Wiesenthal at their regular monthly meeting on Tuesday at Veronica's.

Home school familiarization meetings begin Wednesday
The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District will be conducting a series of meetings to familiarize the community with the Connections Program, the school district's home school program. The first meetings will be on Wednesday and Thursday at 1:30 p.m. The Wednesday meeting will be at the Nikiski Senior Center, and the Thursday meeting will be at the Kenai Visitor's Center.

Carpet selection on the floor at airport
A meeting of the city of Kenai's Airport Terminal Carpet Selection Committee has been scheduled for Thursday. It will be held at Wings Airport Cafe at 2 p.m. Discussion will focus on a choice for replacement carpet at the Kenai Municipal Airport. The public is invited to attend and participate.
Free QuickBooks Pro workshop offered
The PCI Skills Resource Center, part of People Count Inc., is offering a free workshop on the bookkeeping program QuickBooks Pro. The class will be on March 6, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at the PCI office in Kenai. The class is limited to eight people, and registration by Wednesday is required.
There are also other classes in Word 97, Windows 98, Office 97, Excel and others.

Time to sign up for Little League
The Kenai Little League will hold registration for T-Ball, baseball and softball at the Big Kmart in Kenai between March 3 and 18. Registration will not be accepted without a copy of the child's birth certificate, unless already on file.
