ANCHORAGE (AP) -- Three men authorities call a cocaine pipeline to Anchorage were in custody Friday, held on federal drug trafficking charges.
Vasco Vea, 26, Charles Labadie, 28 and Henry Saafi, 26, are charged with cocaine possession with intent to distribute, according to the FBI. The men, who live in Anchorage, also are charged with conspiracy to distribute cocaine.
FBI special agent Eric Gonzalez said the three were arrested Wednesday, Vea and Labadie on a federal grand jury indictment. The three were being held at Cook Inlet Pre-Trial Facility.
The men are accused of using carriers to smuggle up to eleven pounds of cocaine into Anchorage each month on commercial flights. Authorities believe the men have operated in Anchorage for at least two years.
Gonzalez said the arrests came after a four-month investigation by a multi-agency team whose members include the FBI, Anchorage police and Alaska State Troopers. Their investigation continues.
