Food bank Non-Run under way

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank's 7th annual 0-k Non-Run Marathon to Fight Hunger is under way. The food bank rasies money for the fight against hunger by selling official Non-Run Marathon shirts. A $25 donation buys a short-sleeved T-shirt; $35 buys a long-sleeved shirt and $50 buys a sweatshirt.

To make a donation, call the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank at 262-3111 or visit them at Mile 1.5 Kalifornsky Beach Road.

Little League registration scheduled

Registration for Kenai Little League is scheduled for Friday and Saturday and March 8 and 9 at Big Kmart and Carrs.

CANcel hunger CANstruction on display

Canned and packaged food sculptures will be on display this week at the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Sculptures will be judged at 4 p.m. Friday. All food used in the sculptures will be donated to the Kenai Peninsula Food Bank to help feed the hungry. For more information, call 262-3111.

Pageant applications available

Applications are now being taken for the Miss Alaska and Miss Alaska Teen contests. Miss 2002 Alaska will represent the state in the Miss 2002 United States Competition in Las Vegas in October. Miss 2002 Alaska Teen will go on to the Miss 2002 United States Teen Competition in Orlando in July.

Both Miss United States and Miss United States Teen receive $100,000 in scholarships, cash and prizes, plus a year of travel. Both competitions are judged in four categories: personal interview, swimwear, eveningwear and fashion show presentation.

Contestants for Miss 2002 Alaska must be between the ages of 18 and 28 as of Dec. 31, 2002. Contestants for Miss 2002 Alaska Teen must be between the ages of 13 and 19 as of July 31, 2002.

Applications for both competitions are due March 1.
