Seldovia girls capture Lumen tourney title

The Seldovia girls claimed the Lumen Christi Invitational title on Saturday by defeating Nikolaevsk, 40-23.

The Sea Otters were paced with 13 points from Tatiana Gruber, while Nikolaevsk was led by 11 points from Kalisa Kalugin.

Seldovia boys 45, Nikolaevsk 39

Behind 15 points from junior Griffin Swick, the Sea Otters edged the Warriors on Saturday for second place at the Lumen Christi Invitational.

Mavrick Kuzmin scored a game-high 16 points for Nikolaevsk.

Seldovia girls 63, Bristol Bay 25

Gruber scored 18 points, Courtney Collier netted 16 and Naomi Gallien added 14 in leading the Sea Otters past the Angels at the Lumen Christi Invitational on Friday.

Joni Vaag-Angasan led Bristol Bay with 15 points.

Lumen Christi girls 52, Nikolaevsk 30

The Archangels jumped ahead 20-11 at halftime and never looked back in topping the Warriors on Friday at the Lumen Christi Invitational. Lumen Christi finished the tourney in second place.

Kalugin led Nikolaevsk with nine points.

Bristol Bay boys 60, Seldovia 44

Mason King netted a game-high 24 points and Mike Jedlicka added 11 as the Angels, who are ranked fifth in Class 2A, defeated Seldovia in the Lumen Christi Invitational on Friday and eventually wound up winning the tournament.

Tim O’Leary netted a team-high 22 points for the Sea Otters, who were a mere 4-of-15 from the charity stripe.

Lumen Christi boys 56, Nikolaevsk 42

Paul Barras scored a game-high 23 points and Roman Bakic added 14 in leading the Archangels past the Warriors on Friday at the Lumen Christi Invitational.

Kuzmin notched a team-high 15 points for Nikolaevsk.

Soldotna girls 55, Kodiak 42

The Stars took the lead in the first quarter and didn’t give the Bears a chance to take it back, even though Kodiak’s Alysa Horn scored a game high 18 points.

It wasn’t enough to stop the Stars, with Paige Blackburn’s 16 points and the team making good on 16 of 23 foul shots .

Colony girls, 71, Homer 66

Missed free throws cost the Mariners in their contest again the Knights.

The teams were close in points from the floor, but the Knights hit 23 of their 30 free throws, while the Mariners put away only 21 of their 36.

Colony boys, 73, Homer 39

The Knights’ strong shooting led them to a victory over the Mariners with Grant Niver leading the scoring with 23 points. The Mariners led in three-point shots, but lagged in all other scoring. Homer also led in fouls, which allowed Colony to capitalize on 15 for 23 free-throw attempts.

Palmer girls, 41, Skyview 24

The Moose held the Panthers to a low-scoring victory despite the Panthers picking up their scoring pace after the half. Palmer’s Kelsey Campbell sunk two three-pointers in the second quarter, helping tie her with teammates Stephanie Houser and Ashley Swetzof for the game high eight points. For Skyview, Brittany Meyer had the team high of six points.

Kodiak girls 56, Kenai 34

The visiting Bears outscored the Kardinals 19-6 in the opening quarter and went on to victory Friday night.

Alysa Horn scored a game-high 27 points for Kodiak, while Jessie Keplinger added 10.

Kyla Steward led Kenai with 14 points.

Palmer girls 58, Homer 51

Kelsey Campbell netted 13 points and Ashely Swetzof and Stephanie Houser each added 10 in leading the visiting Moose past the Mariners on Friday night.

Allison Horazdovsky paced Homer with 14 points, while Rachel Bornheimer and Claire Siekaniec collected 12 apiece and Reba Temple chipped in 10.

Colony girls 57, Skyview 41

Allie Grazutis netted 14 points in leading the Knights over the host Panthers on Friday night.

Jackie Hamman added 13 points for Colony, while Alex Coon chipped in with 10.

Melissa Fay notched a game-high 23 points for Skyview.

Ninilchik girls 43, Seward 23

The Wolverines, the second-ranked team in Class 2A, got 12 points apiece from Kayleigh Rice and Kjersten Skjold in topping the host Seahawks on Friday night.

Rubye Foldager paced Seward with 12 points.

Galena girls 55, CIA 54

Galena’s Leann Sommer scored a game-high 25 points as Hawks outscored the Eagles by three points in the final period in barely escaping with a victory at the Tok Tournament on Friday.

Melissa Moffis and Brooke Forsi each scored 20 points for CIA, which is ranked fourth in Class 2A. Amie Smithwick added 10 points for the Eagles.

Kodiak boys 53, Kenai 52

Michael Thomas and Raivis Strelnieks collected 12 points apiece as the visiting Bears escaped Kenai with a one-point victory on Friday night.

Nate Saltzgiver scored a game-high 23 points for the Kardinals, who owned a 33-30 edge at halftime. Daniel Gustkey netted 12 points for Kenai.

Palmer boys 45, Homer 38

Nate Svedin scored 14 points and Quinton Fiscus added 12 in leading the visiting Moose past the Mariners on Friday night.

Colten Tutt paced Homer with 10 points.

Colony boys 73, Skyview 24

The Knights led 17-5 after the first eight minutes and didn’t look back in beating the host Panthers on Friday night.

Doug Gray scored a game-high 18 points for Colony, while Josh Moseley and Grant Mirer each added 12 and Javon Murphy chipped in 11.

David Blossom netted a team-high 16 points for Skyview.

Ninilchik boys 74, Tok 68

Austin Vanderford scored a game-high 27 points and Ninilchik hit 32-of-45 free throws in edging Tok on Friday in the Tok Tournament.

Dan Roderick and Cody Presley netted 14 and 13 points, respectively, for Ninilchik, which trailed by eight at halftime.

Randy Denoit paced Tok with 23 points, while Kyle Lacknit scored 15, George Albert 14 and Gyver Goneau 10.
