Nikiski man graduates from boot camp

Pvt. Jack Stolz graduated from boot camp in San Diego and from MCT at Camp Pendleton, Calif. He currently is attending engineering school at Camp LeJeune, N.C.

He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Johnnie A. Stolz of Nikiski.

Students named to honor rolls

Diamond Redmond was named to the dean's list at Cedarville University in Cedarville, Ohio. To be named to the list, students must earn a 3.5 grade point average for the quarter and carry at least 12 credit hours. He is the son of Tom and Sonja Redmond of Soldotna.

Travis D. Haskin of Kenai was named to the president's honor roll at Washington State University. To be named to the list, students must carry at least nine graded hours and must earn a 3.75 grade point average or better for the term.

Daniel Bookey, a 2000 graduate of Kenai Central High School, was named to the honors list at Central Arizona University. He is the son of Kelly and Laurie Bookey of Kenai.

Julian Wells of Kenai was named to the dean's list at the University of Nebraska.

Rachel Rands Jones of Soldotna was named to the dean's list at the University of Nebraska.

Area men join U.S. Army

Clint R. Healy of Soldotna has enlisted in the U.S. Army and recently left for basic training at Fort Benning, Ga. After basic training and advanced individual training, he will be stationed in Korea.

He is the son of Carla Dee Theinness of Galveston, Texas, and Richard L. Healy of Washington.

Michael R. Brown, a 1997 Soldotna High School graduate, has enlisted in the U.S. Army as a Cavalry Scout. He recently left for Fort Knox, Ky.

He is the son of Diane M. Brown of Anchor Point and William K. Brown of Wilmington, Del.

Funny River woman wins raffle

Ruth Knorr was the winner of a gold nugget diamond necklace, the prize in a raffle sponsored by the Funny River Chamber of Commerce.

The drawing was held at the chamber's valentine potluck on Feb. 14. Tickets for the raffle sold for $1 each. Approximately 1,550 tickets were sold. The money goes into the chamber's building fund.
