Ping pong tourney results

The results of the Soldotna Elks Club weekly ping pong tournament are:

First place -- Andy Szczesny and Gary Brumley

Second place -- Dan Mortenson and Joe Szczesny

Third place -- Skip Dove and Ray Debardelaben

Fourth place -- Rob Correson and Joe Hanes

The tournament, held every Wednesday night at the Elks Club in Soldotna, is open to anyone who'd like to play. There is a $5 entry fee, and partners are drawn at random before play begins. For more information, call Ray Debardelaben at 262-7415.

Koniag Natives eligible for scholarship

Scholarships are available for Alaska Natives from the Koniag region of Kodiak from the Koniag Education Foundation. Applications are due March 15.

HEA offers scholarship

Graduating seniors and adults interested in continuing their education may now apply for a $2,000 Homer Electric Association scholarship. The deadline for submission is 5 p.m. March 5.

All HEA members, children and dependents are eligible. Dependents must be 25 or younger and must be eligible for the Alaska Permanent Fund dividend, Applications are available at HEA offices in Homer, Seldovia and Kenai. Applications also are online at and at Kenai Peninsula schools and colleges.

Scholarship recipients will be announced at the HEA annual meeting held May 5.

Alumni from 1981 sought

Alumni from the classes of 1981 from Kenai and Soldotna are being sought for a class reunion, and volunteers are needed for planning the event. The next meeting will be at noon Saturday at Paradisos restaurant in Kenai. The organizers are looking for contact information of classmates not living on the peninsula.

UAS magazine calls for submissions

A total of $2,200 in prizes will be awarded to winning short stories, poetry and Alaska Native writing in "Explorations 2001," the University of Alaska Southeast literary magazine. Submissions must be postmarked by May 15.

Guidelines are available by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to UAS Explorations, Editor Art Petersen, 11120 Glacier Highway, Juneau, AK 99801 or by calling (907) 465-6418.

Submissions are accepted from anyone. Each poem submitted is limited to 60 lines. Stories may not exceed 3,000 words each. On the back of each first page of each submission should be the author's name, address and two or three lines of biography.

KBEA scholarship applications available

The Kenai Borough Employees Association scholarship committee is accepting applications for four scholarships of $500 each. The scholarships are available to all 2001 graduates of the Kenai Peninsula Borough, including public, private and home-schooled individuals.

Applications and instructions are available from any Kenai Peninsula Borough High School counselor's office, at the information desk of the borough building in Soldotna or at www.borough.kenai. Applications must be delivered or postmarked by March 30.
