PALMER (AP) -- A man accused of causing a head-on collision on the Parks Highway in which a young boy was killed has pleaded innocent to charges of murder, drunken driving and assault.

John M. Knauss, 42, entered the plea Monday in Superior Court in Palmer. Knauss, who escaped last year from a halfway house while serving time for a drunken driving conviction, is accused of causing the Nov. 27 crash near Wasilla in which 4-year-old Floyd Mack Jr. was killed.

Mack's mother Linda, 35, and sister Jeanette, 15, were badly burned.

Knauss is being held at Cook Inlet Pre-Trial Facility in lieu of $100,000 bail plus a court-approved, third-party custodian. His next court hearing is scheduled for April 8.
