Hospital board to meet today

The board of directors of CPGH Inc. will meet at 4:30 p.m. today in the Iliamna Room at Central Peninsula General Hospital. The public is invited. A copy of the agenda can be obtained from the Web site at

Community foundation focus of luncheon talk

There will be a no-host luncheon sponsored by the Community Care Foundation and Healthy Communities-Healthy People from noon to 1 p.m. Friday at Mykel's Restaurant (downstairs) in Soldotna. Cost is $10.30 per person.

Guest speaker will be Elizabeth Crittenden Palacios, foundation director of Taos Community Foundation. She will share the story of how a successful community foundation is securing the quality of life for the residents of her area.

Fish and game committee to meet Friday

The Kenai-Soldotna Fish and Game Advisory Committee will meet from 6 to 10 p.m. Friday at the Kenai River Center. Public testimony will be taken on the statewide trout management plan. For more information, call Bob at 283-9447.

Historical society to meet

The Kenai Historical Society will meet Sunday at the Kenai Community Library. Marie Olson will share slides of her experiences as a teacher at Fort Yukon between 1977 and 1987. The public is welcome to attend.

North peninsula council to meet

The North Peninsula Community Council will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Nikiski Senior Citizens Center. For more information, call 776-3257.

Club plans reading event

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula will celebrate "Read Across America" and Dr. Seuss' birthday Monday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The event will include readings, an art project, a ventriloquist, a reader's oath and birthday cake. For more information, call 283-2682.

Australia featured in Safari Club meeting

The Kenai Peninsula Chapter of Safari Club International will present an evening of slides and pictures of hunting in Australia at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Aspen Hotel in Soldotna. There also will be scenes of sand, surf and jumping crocodiles. Refreshments will be provided.

Safari Club International members are reminded to attend the 6 p.m. meeting before the program.

AARP to hold driving class

The AARP will sponsor "55 Alive," a defensive driving course March 7 from 6 to 10 p.m. and March 8 from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Kenai River Center on Funny River Road in Soldotna. The class is certified by the state of Alaska for dismissal of traffic citation or two-point reduction in accumulated points and is open to participants of all ages. Cost is $10. Prom dress sale planned

A prom dress consignment sale will be held March 7 from 2 to 7 p.m. at the Peninsula Center Mall in Soldotna. Anyone wishing to sell dresses should bring them by the mall March 7 between noon and 7 p.m. Thirty percent of the sales will go to the Soldotna High School cross-country ski team. Annual AFS dinner scheduled

The 23rd Annual AFS International dinner will be held 6 p.m. March 9 at our Lady of the Angels Catholic Church in Kenai. A gourmet dinner of international foods is planned to raise funds for the local foreign exchange program. Tickets are $15 each and available at the Kenai Community Library, by calling 283-5221 or contacting any AFS member.

Ninilchik fair banquet planned

A "Fun Raiser" banquet will be held for the Ninilchik State Fair in the Carol Bock Hall at the Ninilchik Fairgrounds April 5 at 6 p.m. The banquet will include herb-encrusted New York steak, twice-baked potatoes, Caesar salad, skewered prawns and vegetables. All proceeds will be used for new seating at the fairgrounds. Tickets are $30 per person or $50 per couple. Tickets are available at the Homer Bookstore, Ninilchik General Store, Deep Creek Sport Shop, Kasilof Mercantile, Kristie Leaf State Farm Agency and Beemun's. Planned Parenthood seeks nominations
