Child care workshops set
The Sterling Head Start will hold child care workshops from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday in room 132 at Kenai Peninsula College. Car seat safety will be from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., SIDS-shaken baby will be from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. and sign language for infants and toddlers from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m. Certificates for licensing-CDA hours will be issued from Child Care Connections. Basic skills program begins
The Boys and Girls Club Start Smart program will begin Saturday and run through April 3. The program is designed for parents to participate with their child in helping to teach them basic skills, including throwing and catching in a noncompetitive environment. Children ages 3 to 5 and their parents are eligible. The cost is $35.
Participants must be Boys and Girls Club members. Junior membership is $10. Registration forms can be obtained on the Internet at www.positiveplaceforkids.com and can be dropped off at the Kenai Boys and Girls Club office or faxed to 283-8190 with a credit card number. Quilters plan yard sale
The Through the Seasons Quilters will hold a yard sale from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Kenai Alternative School. Space still is available. The cost is $10. For more information, call Jennifer at 283-6295.
Cheer clinic slated
The Soldotna High School cheerleaders will hold a cheerleading clinic from 10 a.m. to noon Saturday at the school. Children ages 4 years through sixth grade are eligible to attend. Cost is $25 per child and includes a T-shirt, cheerleading handbook, snack and certificate. Participants will perform during the halftime at the boys basketball game that night. Family History Center to hold open house
The Soldotna Family History Center and Totem Tracers will hold an open house from noon to 6 p.m. Saturday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints at 159 Marydale Ave. Guest speakers will include Sharon Bushell and Bruce Parham. Discussions and displays on history, research and preservation of family history are some of the planned activities. A heirloom quilt display also will be shown. B and B association meeting slated
The Kenai Peninsula Bed and Breakfast Association will hold a meeting at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Bed and Breakfast Lodge at 399 Lovers Lane in Soldotna. Taco fund-raiser planned
The Nikiski Freestyle Wrestlers will hold an all-you-can-eat taco fund-raiser from 5 to 8 p.m. Saturday at the Kenai Elks Lodge. The cost is $5 per person.
