HEA schedules Kasilof meter upgrades

Homer Electric Association will install upgraded electric meters in the following Kenai areas during February and March: Vagabond Bar to Karluck; Karluck to Shadura Street on both sides of Kalifornsky Beach Road; Coal Creek to Sterling Highway and back; Shadura Street to Coal Creek and back; Karluck Street to Cole Street; After Irish Hills to Kasilof River and back; Pollard Loop; Echo Lake Road (highway to Gaswell Road and back); and Skyview to Irish Hills (west side of Sterling Highway).

HEA contractors will drive white trucks and four-wheelers with a HEA logos.

Residents are asked to take necessary precautions to protect sensitive electronic equipment throughout the upgrade.

The upgrade will allow HEA to implement its automated meter reading system that eventually will allow 100 percent of electric accounts to be read remotely. For more information, call toll free (800) 478-8551 or 283-5831.

Spaghetti feed fundraiser slated

The Nikiski North Star Elementary and the Youth Restoration Corps will host a spaghetti feed fundraiser at 5 p.m. Tuesday at the Nikiski Middle-High School. The proceeds will befit the school’s fifth- and sixth-graders outdoor educational camp. For more information, prices or tickets call 776-5575.

Pancake dinner ready to flip

The St. Francis by the Sea Episcopal Church will host a pancake supper fundraiser from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church at 110 South Spruce St. in Kenai. The cost is $3 per person or $10 per family. Proceeds will benefit the Methodist Food Bank.

Cold climate building workshop set

The Cooperative Extension Service-Kenai Peninsula district will host a cold climate home building techniques workshop from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday at Kenai Peninsula College. Richard Seifert, University of Alaska Fairbanks energy and housing specialist, will be the instructor. There is no fee for the class. For more information or to register, call 262-5824.

Dinner fundraiser primed

The Soldotna and Sterling Head Start will host a prime rib dinner, auction and show at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Sterling Senior Center. The cost is $25 per person.
