Letter changes writer’s perspective on Alaska

Letter to the Editor

Posted: Tuesday, February 27, 2007

I’ve been thinking about this post since I first read it (online). I’m alternately amused, horrified, frightened and saddened by these people. They would curtail free speech, free thought and free expression — all because we don’t believe the way they believe. This is fascism, pure and simple.

I’ve never been to Alaska, and therefore haven’t a clue where the Kenai Peninsula is, but with opinions like this so unabashedly published in a local newspaper (therefore lending a forum for such hate-mongering), I can only conclude one of two things: 1) the newspaper is publishing such controversial articles in an attempt to gain readership, and-or 2) someone slipped up.

My dream has always been to visit Alaska someday, but with opinions like this, you can count me out.

Both Ms. Shannon and the newspaper should be ashamed of yourselves.
