Ninilchik girls dominate Tok Invitational tourney

The Ninilchik Wolverines made the long drive to Tok this week to compete in the Tok Invitational tournament Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They swept through the round robin competition and took off with the tourney title.

Thursday night, the Wolverines faced Minto in what would be Ninilchik's closest game. The Wolverines won, 59-44. Teresa Chihuly ran off with the games highest point total, 28.

The tournament featured Friday doubleheaders. Ninilchik swamp-ed Ft. Yukon 76-15 in the morning game and bested Tok 62-20 in the evening matchup.

Jessica Russo raked in 18 points against Ft. Yukon. Molly Bosick added 12. Chihuly landed 17 points versus the host. Tasha Leman got 13 in the second game.

Saturday, the Wolverines finished off their perfect weekend with a 72-21 win over Skagway.

Homer girls 48, Kodiak 35

Sheena Cundiff poured in 25 points, including three 3-pointers, as the host Mariners picked up the Region III/4A victory Friday night.

Kodiak led 17-8 after the first eight minutes, but would only score 18 points the rest of the game.

Kodiak boys 78, Homer 59

Nick Billings, a 6-foot-10 senior, dropped 20 points in on the Mariners Friday night in the Region III/4A contest.

The Bears moved their record to 6-3 in the region and 12-5 overall, while Homer dropped to 4-5 and 10-9.

Sean Haynes poured in 23 points for the Mariners, while Richie Crum added 12.

For Kodiak, Thomas Kreta (12 points), Geoffrey Agmata (11 points) and Godfrey Agmata (10 points) also made it into double digits.

The host Eagles put three players in double figures Friday.

Freshman Sarah McLeod paced the CIA attack with 13 points, while sophomore Chantal Reese dumped in 11 and junior Kristen Zimmerman had 10.

The host Eagles, ranked third in Class 1-2A, gradually pulled away from the Warriors for the District 3/2A victory.

CIA senior Noah Shields put in 17 points to lead all scorers. Nikolaevsk's Dimitry Martusheff and Kiril Martushev each had 10 points and were the only other players in the game to hit double digits.
