ANCHORAGE (AP) -- The former archbishop of the Catholic Archdiocese of Anchorage has undergone heart-related surgery in California.
Francis T. Hurley, 75, fainted Sunday while celebrating Mass at the San Francisco home of his sister, who is very ill, an archdiocese spokesman said.
Doctors at Seton Medical Center in Daly City performed an angioplasty and inserted two devices in his vessels Wednesday to improve blood flow to his heart, Brother Charles McBride said.
McBride said that originally it was believed that an infection of the ear and left side of Hurley's face caused him to faint, McBride said. Tests this week, however, showed that Hurley's blood flow was restricted.
