Soldotna Community Schools

Tooth care

Jennifer McElroy will cover from baby bottle tooth decay to age-defying whitening options. She will discuss cavity prevention, home care, choosing the right toothbrush and the use of fluoride.

The class is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Tuesday in the computer lab at Soldotna Middle School. For teens and adults. The cost is $5.

Fur skin sewing

Loraine Larsen will demonstrate hide stretching and teach skin sewing techniques and secrets for making trapper- and trooper-style fur hats, women's dress band hats, sheepskin slippers with beaver cuffs, baby booties and baby hats, children's beaver mittens and sheepskin trapper-style hats, earmuffs and fur mittens.

Supplies for small, ornament projects will be provided. All materials for large projects will be available for sale at class.

The first week the class will meet every Tuesday and Thursday in the home economics room at Soldotna Middle School. For teens and adults. There is a five-person minimum and 15-person maximum. The cost is $45.

Theater workshops

Jodene McAuliffe, Jamie Nelson and Rita Eddy Kincaid from the Kenai Performers will instruct. The class will cover costuming, make-up, set construction, stage combat, lighting and more. Participants are asked to come ready to paint, try on make-up or take a fake punch.

Call Jodene McAuliffe at 262-4855 for more details. The class is from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday and March 10 and 17 at Old Town Playhouse in Kenai. For teens and adults. The cost is $15 per class or $35 for all three.

Beyond the power struggle

Dr. Kathleen Dinius, Ph.D., licensed psychologist will discuss how to use communication techniques and consequence systems to get people to change.

These techniques can be used with children, teens, adult children, family members, co-workers and subordinates. Build strong and cooperative relationships without conflict.

The class is from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday in the library at Soldotna Middle School. For teens and adults. The cost is $10.

Homer Community Schools

Basic life support

Samantha Cunningham will instruct. The class will cover adult, child and infant CPR, Heimlich maneuver as well as other supportive medical techniques for CPR.

This is an all day video-based class required for all professional providers, CNAs, nurses, dental assistants and anyone associated with the medical field. It's also for CMHC employees.

Call 235-8341 for more information. The class is from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday at Homer High School. The cost is $90.

New class ideas wanted

Homer Community Schools is looking for new classes to offer for the spring and summer sessions.

If you have a hobby or skill and would like to put together a class, call Mike at (907) 235-6090 to discuss your ideas. The deadline for classes is Tuesday.

Spring catalog available soon

The spring catalog will run from today to May 27.

The catalogs will be available March 18.
