Nikiski girls, boys get swept on road trip

The Nikiski girls basketball team closed its regular season with a 40-26 loss at Grace Christian on Saturday in Southcentral Conference action.

The Grizzlies led 10-4 after one period and 24-10 at the half. Mackenzie Fredrickson had 14 points to lead Grace, while Kassi Johnson had nine points for the Bulldogs.

Grace boys 64, Nikiski 50

The host Grizzlies notched a Southcentral Conference victory on Saturday.

Grace used a balanced scoring attack with Zack Vandervalk and Grant Mathews netting 11 points and Ron Fancher and Andrew Bauman collecting 10 points.

Sam Taylor had 16 points for the Bulldogs, while Brando Wik had 15 and Bob Seater had 10.

ACS girls 53, Nikiski 23

The host Lions overcame a slow start to notch a Southcentral Conference victory on Friday.

Debbiey Simmers had 18 points for the Lions, who trailed 11-8 after the first quarter. Makenzie Moore had eight points for the Bulldogs.

ACS boys 68, Nikiski 48

Ryan Scott had 19 points as the host Lions notched a Southcentral Conference victory over the Bulldogs on Friday.

Nikiski, which was led by Brando Wik's 23 points, trailed 25-13 after the first quarter.

Seward travels to Cordova

The Cordova girls defeating visiting Seward 53-43 on Friday in Southcentral Conference action. The Wolverines grabbed a 10-2 lead at the start of the game and never trailed.

The Cordova boys topped Seward 53-33 on Friday. The Wolverines used a 22-point third quarter to open up a comfortable lead.

Kodiak boys 74, Homer 46

The host Bears notched a Northern Lights Conference victory on Friday over the Mariners.

Kodiak jumped to a 26-7 lead after the first quarter. Raphael Matautia had 13 of his game-high 18 points in the first eight minutes. For Homer, Luke Garvey had 10 points.

Kodiak boys 51, Homer 36

The Bears notched a nonconference victor in Kodiak on Saturday. Dyllan Day had nine points to lead Homer.

Kodiak girls 58, Homer 13

The visiting Bears notched a Northern Lights Conference victory in Homer on Friday.

Seldovia girls 27, Ninilchik 24

The Sea Otters picked up a Peninsula Conference victory over the visiting Wolverines on Saturday in a defensive battle.

Sarah Geagel had 12 points for the Sea Otters, while Courtney Collier added 11. For Ninilchik, Lindsay Schnabl had eight points.

Nanwalek boys 64, Ninilchik JV 49

The Eagles topped the Wolverines on Saturday in Seldovia. Matthew Gain poured in 25 points for Nanwalek, while Christopher Kvasnikoff added 18.
