Search for lost Soldotna man suspended Friday

Posted: Sunday, February 29, 2004

Alaska State Troopers used helicopters and canine units to search for a missing 35-year-old Soldotna man Thursday and Friday after his vehicle was found abandoned on Kenai Keys Road in Sterling.

Richard Hills was reported missing after he failed to return from working in Anchorage, where he was last seen Tuesday, troopers said.

Troopers suspended their search Friday evening but will resume the search if any new information turns up, said trooper spokesperson Greg Wilkinson. On Thursday afternoon, Hills' truck was found on Kenai Keys and searchers followed footprints from the vehicle one-half mile into the woods and up to Feuding Lane where the prints ended.

A National Guard helicopter and a trooper helicopter were used to search the area Friday, and troopers brought in three search and rescue dogs from Girdwood to search on the ground. Ten Central Emergency Services responders assisted in the search, as well.

Anyone knowing the whereabouts of Hills is asked to call troopers at 262-4453.
