ACS has issued an alert via the media to customers about a fraud scheme being reported by many of its customers.
An unknown caller, with a pronounced foreign accent, is calling customers fraudulently saying ACS is consolidating billing systems or lowering rates or offering some other reason for the call, and asks the customer to provide personal information including Social Security number, date of birth and mailing address.
ACS never calls customers requesting personal information, a company spokesperson said.
Customers should never give this type of personal information over the phone.
The best practice is to hang up, the company said.
The calls reportedly began Tuesday.
People who receive such fraudulent calls are asked to report the incidents to ACS by dialing 811.
