Peninsula Sled Dog Racing Association Classic

The Peninsula Sled Dog Racing Association Classic, a two-day mushing event, took place Saturday and Sunday at the trails at Soldotna Airport.

Bill Berkhahn won both the 1-dog, 4-mile and the 2-dog, 6-mile skijor races. Berkhahn's two-day total time in the 1-dog race was 37 minutes, 36 seconds, while his total time in the 2-dog race was 49:06.

Patty Moran won the 4-dog, 4-mile mushing race with a two-day time of 33:27, then added two dogs to her team to take the 6-dog, 6-mile race with a two-day time of 42:01.

James Wheeler won a close 8-dog, 8-mile race with a two-day time of 53:59.

Peninsula Oilers offering six scholarships

The Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club will award four $500 scholarships to graduating 12th-grade students from Kenai, Nikiski, Skyview and Soldotna High Schools. One scholarship will be awarded to a student from each school.

In addition, the Peninsula Oilers Booster Club will offer a $1,000 and a $500 scholarship to any 12th-grade student graduating from an accredited high school program within the Kenai Peninsula Borough.

These scholarships will be for the winners' colleges of choice.

All applications must be received in the Oilers office no later than 5 p.m. March 31.
