Dent named 'Youth of the Year'
Kristopher Dent of Nikiski recently was named the Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula 2004 Youth of the Year.
The Youth of the Year is sponsored by Reader's Digest Foundation and administered by the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. The program recognizes superior leadership skills, academic achievement and outstanding service to Boys and Girls Clubs and the community.
Dent will compete against other Boys and Girls Club youth for the Alaska State Youth Of the Year title. Five regional winners selected from among the state winners will compete for a national honor in Washington, D.C., where the national winner will be officially installed by the president in a White House ceremony in September. The winner also will receive a $10,000 scholarship from Reader's Digest Foundation.
He is the son of Kimberli and Kelly Dent. Dent is a senior at Nikiski Middle-Senior High School.
Area residents make deans' lists
Soldotna resident Jessica Foster was named to the dean's for the fall semester at Harding University. To be named to the list, students must carry 12 or more hours and have an average scholarship level of 3.65.
Foster is a senior majoring in mathematics.
Hannah Clare of Soldotna was named to the dean's list at Eastern Washington for the fall semester. Students must carry at least 12 credits and achieve a 3.5 GPA or higher.
