Little League seeking umpires

Peninsula Oilers to offer scholarships

The Peninsula Oilers Baseball Club, Inc. will award four $500 scholarships, one each per school, to graduating seniors from Kenai, Nikiski, Skyview and Soldotna High Schools.

In addition the Oilers Baseball Booster Club, Inc. will award one $1,000 and one $500 scholarship to graduating seniors from any accredited high school program with in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. Applicants must apply to each organization separately and all applications must be received no later than 5 p.m. March 31.

Reading celebration planned

The Boys and Girls Club in Soldotna will celebrate Read Across America and Dr. Seuss's 100 birthday from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the club.

Reader's theater, puppet making, readers oath, family bingo, face painting and crazy hair are some of the planned activities. For more information, call Kimberli at 283-2682.

Applications available for summer page program

Congressman Don Young currently is accepting applications for his summer page program. Qualified applicants must be at least 16 at the time the appointment begins and have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or better in the five major academic disciplines. Summer applicants may only serve as a page during the summer before or the summer after their junior year of high school.

The following items are required for applicants to be eligible for consideration: a completed application form; an official transcript of all grades from the ninth grade through the first semester of the current year; Social Security number; a signed parental consent form; a 50- to 100-word essay on why the student wants to become a Republican page; a resume of extra-curricular activities; three letters of recommendation and a letter of support from Congressman Young's office.
