Nikiski artist Jim Evenson will have a solo exhibition of abstract paintings. It will consist of acrylics on paper at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center on Thursday through April 16. Everyone is invited to the opening reception from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday.

The Friendship Mission held an organizational meeting Feb. 18 at the Nikiski Church of the Nazarene. The meeting was to compose its constitution and by-laws and to elect board members and officers. Board members are David Hall, Marian Nickelson, Paul Hartley, Larry Harvey and Denver Copeland. Graydon Cowgill, president; David Hall, vice president; Larry Harvey, treasurer; and Mary Anne Cowgill, secretary. Its purpose is to provide spiritual, physical and financial needs for the homeless on the Kenai Peninsula.

Bob Harrison's cribbage report for Feb. 19: Glenn Clifford, Judy Piepgras and Paul Marquez placed first, second and third respectively.

, author of "Grannie Annie's Cookin' on the Woodstove" was picked to be in the Quail Ridge Press new cookbook "The Best of the Best of American Cookbooks" which features all 50 states. Along with this news, her cookbook was recently featured on QVC. The recipe, woodstove stew, was featured on page 23. This was Berg's second time to be featured on QVC.
