KPBSD honor band concert scheduled

The Kenai Peninsula Borough School District honor band will perform at 6:30 p.m. today at the Mariner Theater in Homer.

Robert Ponto, director of bands at the University of Oregon, will direct. Ninety-six students from Homer, Kenai Central, Skyview and Soldotna high schools will spend two days in clinics and rehearsals before the concert.

Homer High School's concert and symphonic bands also will play. The cost is $2. Proceeds will go to help support KPBSD band festivals.

Ford to perform at library

Kenai Community Library will host a 101st birthday party in honor of Dr. Seuss at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday at the library. Carol Ford will perform "Horton Hears a Who." There also will be an appearance by the Cat in the Hat, cake and prizes. For more information, call Corey Hall at 283-4378.

Food bank plans events

The Kenai Peninsula Food Bank is sponsoring the following events. For more information,call 262-3111.

n CANstruction — Sculptures using nonperishable food items will be available for public viewing during the First Thursday art events, with final judging at noon March 18 at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center.

n Nutrition classes — "Protect Your Heart, Ways for Healthier Eating" nutrition classes continue at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the food bank. The last session is March 8. Colleen Sonnevil of the Cooperative Extension Services will instruct. It is open to the public.

Volunteers for wildlife education sought

The Alaska Department of Fish and Game and the Kenai National Wildlife Refuge are seeking qualified and interested volunteers to give classroom presentations about bears in the Kenai and Soldotna area. Volunteers will make use of Fish and Game kits and resources. Volunteers are needed one to two days a week during the school year. Financial workshop slated

A financial fitness first workshop series will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 15, 22 and 29 at the Abundant Life Church in Sterling. For more information call 262-9811.

SoHi after-prom meeting set

Soldotna High School parents of juniors will meet at 6 p.m. March 9 in the commons. The topic will be the after-prom party. Parents of juniors are encouraged to attend. For more information, call 262-9751 or 262-1468.
