Oil and gas industry tops among borough taxpayers

Historically, oil and gas industry participants have dominated the top 10 taxpayer listing in the Kenai Peninsula Borough. In recent years, some have been displaced by communications companies and large retailers.

In 2000, eight out of the top 10 taxpayers in the borough were involved in the petroleum industry, with Unocal topping the list.

The highest nonpetroleum-related taxpayer was Alaska Communications Systems at No. 6, and the only other one on the list was Fred Meyer Inc at No. 10.

According to the Kenai Peninsula Borough Assessing Department, the borough's top 10 taxpayers and the amount they paid in 2000 were:

Cook Inlet Pipeline Co, $23,875,700

Fred Meyer Inc., $14,747,282
