Club plans reading event

The Boys and Girls Clubs of the Kenai Peninsula will celebrate "Read Across America" and Dr. Seuss' birthday Monday from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The event will include readings, an art project, a ventriloquist, a reader's oath and birthday cake. For more information, call 283-2682.

SCI slide show slated

The Kenai Peninsula chapter of Safari Club International will host an evening of slides and pictures from Australia 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Aspen Hotel in Soldotna. The public is invited to attend. The slide show will follow an SCI meeting at 6 p.m. For more information, call 262-9881.

EDD to host visitors industry summit

The Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District will host a Visitors Industry Summit on Friday at the Kenai Visitors and Cultural Center. Registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. The meeting is open to the public. For more information, call 283-3335, ext. 224.

Installer training offered

Mining and Petroleum Training Service, in conjunction with the Department of Environmental Conservation, will provide training for certified wastewater system installers Friday in Soldotna. Cost of the course is $65, with a $625 two-year certification fee upon successful completion of the course.

Cooper Landing festival planned

The Cooper Landing Chamber of Commerce will hold its inaugural Cooper Landing Winter Festival March 7-9 in Cooper Landing. The festival will feature volleyball, pinochle, dart and softball tournaments, as well as music, dancing, food and games. For a schedule of events or more information, call (907) 595-8888.

KPC to present comedy showcase

Kenai Peninsula College will present a comedy showcase March 14 at 8 p.m. at the college. Ben Bailey, who has performed comedy on NBC, FOX, CBS, Comedy Central and in the motion picture "So Real," will be the featured performer, with local comic Jason Battiest providing the opening act. Cost is $10 for general admission and $5 for seniors and students.

Soccer club to hold tryouts

The Kenai Peninsula Soccer Club will hold tryouts for its competitive soccer teams March 28 and 29. Registration forms may be picked up at Red Line Sports, the Soldotna Public Library, Kenai Recreation Center and HiSpeed Gear.
