Respite services available

Frontier Community Services is accepting applications for its respite grant program. Respite services provides the opportunity for primary caregivers to take a break from assisting with the health and-or disability of a family member.

Economic development to be discussed

Jack Brown, Jeanne Camp and John Parker will be the featured speakers at the Kenai Chamber of Commerce meeting at noon today at Paradisos. Lunch is $11. For more information, call 283-7989.

Brown is the business development manager for the Kenai Peninsula Borough's Community and Economic Development Division, Camp is an economic analyst and Parker is the executive director of the Kenai Peninsula Economic Development District.

Caregiver workshop set

The National Family Caregiver Support Program Alaska will hold a support meeting from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Thursday at the Seward Senior Citizens Center.

Soccer registration begins

The Kenai Peninsula Soccer Club will hold tryouts Friday, Saturday and March 11. It is a competitive club for kids who want to take their soccer play to the next level. Boot camp slated

The Alaska Young Marines will hold a boot camp at 9 a.m. Saturday at the Soldotna Elks Lodge. For more information, call Carol Lasky at 260-3857 or 776-6508.

Recycling fund-raiser set

Central Kenai Peninsula residents are encouraged to support local youth and school organizations by bringing in aluminum cans to the Central Peninsula Landfill (in back of the multipurpose building) for the Great Aluminum Can Round-up. Cans will be weighed from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday. Awards and prizes will be given to each category of groups (small, medium, large), as well as an overall prize for the largest amount of aluminum cans collected.

The next collection days are April 2 and 16. The contest is sponsored by Kenai Peninsula Green Star and Kenai Peninsula Borough Solid Waste Department.

Lip sync contest slated

Soldotna Community Schools will host its 20th annual Showin' Off the Kids lip sync and choreography contest at 6 p.m. Saturday at Soldotna High School Auditorium. Refreshments will be served at intermission to celebrate its 20-year anniversary.

Proceeds will benefit the Soldotna Community Schools youth programs.

Tickets are available at the door. The cost is $3 for students or $5 for adults. For more information, call Carmen at 262-6768.
