Ash Wednesday service planned

A United Methodist Ash Wednesday service will be held at the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant on Wednesday at 7 p.m. The congregations of the Soldotna and North Star United Methodist churches will take part.

A choir practice will be held at 6 p.m.

The New Covenant church is located in Kenai next to the Boys and Girls Club. The service is open to the public.

Jesus movie to be featured

For six consecutive Wednesday evenings, Christ Lutheran Church will show portions of the movie, "Jesus of Nazareth." The film will be the center of the brief evening worship service. "The Power and Authority of Love," "Love Rejected and Condemned" and "The Victory of Love" will be some of the themes found in the story about Jesus' life, death and resurrection.

The services are from 6:10 to 7 p.m. starting Wednesday through April 12. Christ Lutheran Church is at Mile .25 of the Kenai Spur Highway in Soldotna.

Ladies conference starts Thursday

The Kalifonsky Christian Center Ladies Conference 2000 will be held Thursday through March 11. It is designed to encourage, uphold and inspire women of all ages. The theme of the conference is "Lasting Beauty. The speakers are Vicki Toliver and Michelle Faumui.

Two sessions will be held at the center both on Thursday and March 10. They are at 1 and 7 p.m. each day. The conference will end with a luncheon celebration at Old Town Village Restaurant on March 11 at 11 a.m.

There is a $15 fee for the conference, which includes the luncheon. For more information, call Marta Eldridge at 283-7152 or Terri Hutchens at 260-5484. Reservations need to be made by Saturday.

Easter cantata choir to start practicing

The choir of the United Methodist Church of the New Covenant invites singers to be part of an Easter cantata, "Crown Him King," which will be performed at the church April 23 at 8 a.m.

Beginning March 15, practices will be held at the church on Wednesdays from 6 to 7:30 p.m. For more information, call Kari Mohn at 283-4258.
