Nikiski boys, girls get district victories at Grace

The Nikiski High School boys basketball team recovered from Friday's loss by posting a 56-30 District 3/3A win over Grace Christian Saturday in Anchorage.

The Nikiski girls also continued to roll, downing the Grizzlies 52-32.

The Grace boys were able to stay with the Bulldogs in the first two quarters, trailing by four at the half, but Nikiski limited the Grizzlies nine points in the second half while scoring 31 en route to the win.

David Holloway led the Bulldogs with 14 points while Josh Reilly had 13 points. Ryan Bowlin netted 10 points for the Bulldogs.

Karen Rabung had a big night for the Nikiski girls with 24 points. Sally Glaze contributed 16 points to the cause and April Lofstedt finished with nine points.

Houston boys 56, Soldotna 43

Hillary Zobeck led the Stars with 26 points as Soldotna put together a big second quarter in a win over Houston.

The Hawks opened the game with a 15-10 lead after one quarter of play, but Soldotna stormed back, outscoring Houston 21-5 in the second quarter. The Stars added to their lead through the second half.

Rachel Besse had 12 points for the Stars, Jenna Syverson scored nine and Erin Wolfe connected for eight points.

The Soldotna boys dropped their nonregion game. Ben Histand was the team's high scorer with nine points.

The Kardinals' visit to Wasilla was not a fruitful one, as the Kenai girls were sent home with a loss on their record. The Warriors were led in scoring by Marsha Schirack with 16 points. Kenai's Erica Shinn, Erin Smith and Michelle Edward led the Kardinals with six points each.
