'Fun raiser' planned to benefit fair

The Ninilchik Fair Association will host a "fun raiser" banquet April 5 to benefit the Kenai Peninsula State Fair. The evening will include entertainment, raffles, games and auctions, with borough Mayor Dale Bagley serving as emcee, as well as a dinner of herb crusted New York steak, prawn and vegetable kabobs, twice-baked potatoes, dinner rolls, Caesar salad and an ice cream bar.

The event will be held at the Kenai Peninsula State Fairgrounds in Carol Bock Hall. Doors open at 6 p.m. for a no-host bar and entertainment, followed by dinner at 7 p.m.

Tickets are $30 per person or $55 per couple and are available at the Homer Bookstore, Ninilchik General Store, Deep Creek Sport Shop, Kasilof Mercantile, Kristie Leif State Farm Agency in Kenai and Beemun's in Soldotna.

Planned Parenthood seeks award nominations

Planned Parenthood of Alaska is seeking nominations for the Alaska Choice Awards, honoring individuals, businesses, programs and other entities with a strong commitment to the PPA mission to support life-long sexual health of all Alaskans and ensure every child is a wanted child.

Nominees should be those who have made outstanding contributions in one or more of the following categories: advocacy, medical services, education, special honors, volunteer at a clinic or with a program, youth volunteer or Planned Parenthood employee.

The nomination deadline is March 14, and the awards will be presented at a luncheon award ceremony at noon May 9 at the Anchorage Hilton Hotel.
