Mr. Doxsee was born March 26, 1948, in Bangor, Maine. He moved from Vermont to Alaska in the 1970s and was a hi-line Bristol Bay fisher for 30 years. He loved fly fishing, hunting, down-hill skiing, clam digging and, above all, commercial fishing. He was a drift fisher in Bristol Bay, where he spearheaded new techniques on the catching, holding and selling of salmon. These methods made him one of the most notable hi-liners and most well-respected men in Bristol Bay.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1970 to 1972 in Germany and was honorably discharged. He toured Europe during his military career. Mr. Doxsee was an avid philosopher and active with his family. He learned to tie excellent fish flies at an early age.
"Greater love hath no man than this. For Adrian saved the life of his son and many others. He was one of the last frontiersman," his family said.
On numerous occasions and in the incident that led to his death he saved his son. When his truck went into the river, he helped his son to shore. He started a fire and helped his son and his dog to survive.
Mr. Doxsee was preceded in death by his mother, Dorothy Racine Doxsee; grandparents, William and Ruby Racine and Arthur and Lillian Doxsee; favorite uncle, Elmer Demery; niece, Trudy Curtis Lamont; brother in-law, Clayton E. Richardson; brother-in-law, Joseph Curtis; and special friend, Dale Neither.
