Volunteers sought to patrol Chugach

Trail ranger volunteers are being sought to assist backcountry trail rangers in providing information to the public about recreational opportunities and regulations, cleaning camp sites, patrolling hiking trails, conducting trail and cabin condition surveys and performing minor trail and trail head maintenance. The work requires camping outdoors in inclement weather, extensive backpacking, hiking, mountain biking and flying.

A stipend, transportation, supervision and training, housing when not in the field, and all necessary backpacking and camping equipment will be provided. The Seward Ranger District of the Chugach National Forest includes 200 miles of trails and 18 backcountry cabins.

The work schedule is 40 hours per week with a 60-day commitment. Applicants must be U.S. citizens.
